What are the core concepts of internet marketing?

First and foremost, your primary objective is to sell something online. You are marketing on the internet, after all.

Bloggers may not be concerned about selling anything. In many cases, they just want their own forum on which to share their ideas. But in fact, bloggers are “selling something” too — their influence. Now, it may not bring them any money, at least directly. However, influence is a powerful thing.

But you are not just a blogger — you are more than that. While you may blog, you are doing it for a much different purpose. Of course, you are trying to influence your visitors to buy your products and services. You do that by building trust and by making compelling offers.

Never forget that your primary goal is to sell something!

There are two general things to sell: Your own products and services and other people’s products and services. The latter is called affiliate marketing. You get a commission whenever somebody buys a product or service through your affiliate link. That will be the topic of another training.

In order to sell your own products and services on the internet, you need a framework with which to start. That framework begins with your own web site. I recommend using WordPress as your content management system. It is easy to set up, learn, and use.

Included with your membership is a complimentary subscription to The Ultimate Guide to WordPress. Don’t buy it — you get it for free. If you weren’t set up with your membership already, just click the Support button above and fill out a very brief ticket and I will set you up as soon as possible.

Follow the guide to set up your web site.

You will also need to create your own product. More on that in a future training module.

Additionally, you will need to create (or commission somebody else to do it for you) your sales materials, including your sales pages, email campaigns, and product launch information.

You will need an autoresponder account. I recommend Aweber. There are quite a few good alternatives, like iContact, Get Response, and Mail Chimp.

Another key ingredient is a good “squeeze page.” The purpose of a squeeze page is to collect email addresses of people who want to subscribe to your email marketing list (i.e., your “list”) so that you can email them various content, offers, and other communications via email.

Email marketing is still the best way to earn money on a consistent basis, as you can send offers to people who have given you permission to do so. More training will follow on email marketing.

Your web site needs content. It is best if your create your own content. Some of your content, however, should come from guest bloggers. There are dozens of ways to create content. We will discuss this in great detail in future training modules.

Just because you have a web site with killer content does not mean that anybody will see it. We will go through how to generate traffic and get the word out about your web site and new additions to it.

Again, your primary objective is to sell. So once your have your product, web site, email campaign, and traffic, you will make your offers. Creating a proper sales funnel is of paramount importance.

To summarize, this is what internet marketing is:

  • Content
  • Traffic
  • Email list
  • Make offers
  • Sell

Those are the core concepts you need to learn in order to succeed in internet marketing. You will learn all about these concepts — and many more — in this course.
